Have a Safe Thanksgiving With These Tips
Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away, which means it is time to pull out your favorite recipes and get the bedrooms ready for arriving guests! It is also the best time to make sure that everyone knows how to stay safe during the holiday. Keep these Thanksgiving cooking safety tips in mind to ensure everyone has a pleasant holiday season!
- Clean your stove and oven before you start cooking. Built up grease can easily cause a dangerous fire to start in your kitchen.
- Do not leave the house when you have food in the oven so that you can keep an eye on it. If you are cooking food on the stove, do not leave the kitchen so that you can prevent any fires from starting.
- Keep all flammable objects away from the stove when you are cooking, such as potholders, towels, food packaging and bags.
- Create a “kid’s free zone” in your kitchen that is at least three feet away from the stove and oven. Children can easily be injured from boiling water or splattering oil.
- Keep the floor free of any obstacles, such as toys and bags. Also, be sure to keep your pets out of the kitchen so that they do not cause you to trip.
- Check all smoke alarms in your home to make sure they are properly working before you start cooking. Replace any smoke alarms that are outdated or malfunctioning.
- Keep a fire extinguisher that is rated for grease fires nearby. Make sure there are multiple people in the house that know how to use it.
- Before you go to bed at the end of the night, double-check all of your appliances to ensure that they are turned off.
